Description: The King Arts Complex and AEP along with Fifth Third, NBC4 WCMH and Radio One invites everyone to join us as we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday at this year’s MLK Open House, “Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Mission to Fulfill” Monday, January 16, 2012 from 12:00 p.m-4:00 p.m. at the King Arts Complex.

Share Dr. King’s dream with family and friends and experience a day full of great programming and cultural activities.

One of this year’s highlights of the MLK Open House will be the creation of a unique gumball mural project with nationally recognized artist, sculptor, and illustrator Franz Spohn. Spohn brings his enthusiasm, experience and expertise to his workshops with an affable and very informative approach. Children and adults will have a hands-on opportunity to construct a lasting tribute of Dr. King. Visitors can also experience a thought-provoking exhibition in the Elijah Pierce Gallery, be informed by our permanent installations of Goree Island and Cargo, enjoy toe tapping performances and much more!

This year’s keynote speaker will be the Rev Dr. Victor M. Davis of Trinity Baptist Church of Columbus, OH. Davis’s leadership as pastor, preacher, priest, prophet and teacher, has lead the disciples of Trinity in a proactive ministry that is committed to “Compelling the World to Salvation and Discipleship”. In addition, he has served as a member of several organizations and boards in the faith and civic communities locally and nationally: Columbus Baptist Pastors’ Conference, Foreign Missions Convention, Columbus Urban League, USA Columbus Housing Partnership Inc., and the Columbus Housing Trust Fund and the Kingdom Association of Covenant Pastors just to new a few.

The King Arts Complex exists to enrich and improve the quality of life in our community by creating enhanced understanding and preserving, presenting and fostering the artistic, cultural and historical contributions and experiences of African Americans.

MLK Open House is free and open to the public! For more information, call The King Arts Complex at 614-645-KING (5464) or visit http://www.thekingartscomplex.com/
